Everything I know about the historic St. Nicholas comes from Wikipedia. Where does the modern Santa Claus come from?

    I think the whole idea of Santa is all Victorian era ideas.
    I think the Coca-cola company has a lot to do with the modern views of Santa to.

    Saint Nicholas was a real saint from Mira (Turkey)
    Years after his death he respawned as Sinterklaas, a “saint” who’se holiday still is celebrated on 5 december in Holland, Belgium and parts of France.

    When people from these countries emigrated to the US they took the tradition with them where it merged with the British Father Christmas.

    The modern Santa (red coat and beard) was invented by the Coca Cola company, and the rest is on Wikipedia
